So we just finished maybe the most amazing week of our lives (besides our wedding and babies’ birth – We love you wives if you’re reading this!) Castlefest is over, and we’ve got some special Castlefest footage for you. Chris Fox is coming into your earbuds this month to teach you about Ocular ultrasound. And yes, I know Castlefest has just ended, but we don’t like to live in the past. We’ve got a special announcement today. ALASKAFEST 2012! I’d tell you about it right now, but why don’t you just watch the episode and we explain everything fully at the end. Or if you REALLY can’t wait go to www.alaskafest2012.com. We’ve got room for about 1/4th of the people we had at Castlefest, so don’t get mad at us if it’s full. Registration is open now.

p.s. – audio for this episode isn’t perfect as it’s recorded from a lapel mic at Castlefest, but it’s Chris Fox people, so quit your complaining…….

Special announcement

One-Minute Ultrasound App is now Free! We found out it was going to be much harder than expected to have both the free and paid versions of the app in the app store at the same time. And since our main goal is to get this in your hands ASAP, we’re switching the paid app to free. All we really ask is that you PLEASE give us a good rating and review. If something doesn’t work or needs improvement, email us and we’ll fix it. We know that at first release there can be some issues with bugs, so let us know and we’ll be all over it. We may or may not change it back to paid in the future, but for now, we’re just gonna make it free with an optional donate button in the app to try and cover costs that way. If you already bought it email us what you think it’s worth and we’ll either except your extra payment or issue you a refund to make up the difference. We think this is a very valuable app, but we don’t want to deter anyone from having and using it by attaching a price. So here it is. Take it as our gift to you!

p.s. – If you bought it last night and don’t think it’s worth what you paid for it, just email us and we’ll refund your money. We’ve already got stellar reviews, though! Check out the one from someone named ”Michael Mallin”. He seemed to really like it!

p.p.s – If you’ve attempted using this on your iPad, we realize it’s a little ugly. We’re currently working on a better interface to make the app more tablet friendly. So, hold tight, we’ll make it better.

EPSS and APPS!!

One’s a cool, quick way to measure LVEF, and the other’s the answer to all your ultrasound hopes, dreams, and aspirations! The wait is over! So not long ago we got a suggestion from Scott Weingart:

”Maybe EPSS would be a cool episode.”

Well, our mothers both taught us that

“When The Scott says it…..it’s true”.

So we made it, and he was right. It is a pretty good episode if we do say ourselves. So if you want to learn how to quickly, accurately measure your patient’s ejection fraction then you’ve come to the right place. Sit back and let Mike and Matt get all up in your earbuds and educate you.

As for the App, it’s FINALLY done!

Just to be clear, we would never recommend making an app as it can be a real pain. But it’s here, and we think you’re gonna love it! We’re still working diligently to add more “episodes” to it, and we have plans to double the size of the current app, but it’s already got a TON of content. And as for the price: (SPOILER ALERT) it’s free!……but complicated. There’s going to be a paid and free version with basically the same content. Listen in to the very end of the episode to hear a more detailed explanation. It’s not free to make an app, but we think we’ve creatively figured out a way to get this sweet tool into your hands at no cost to you. Why not tell us now you say? Well we put it at the end because we think this EPSS episode is some pretty quality education and we didn’t want to detract from it with some app nonsense. I mean, come on, smartphones and ultrasound. Who has a smartphone and who uses ultrasound. Both probably fads……..

OK, so you may have heard the rumors. Is it true?

Is the Ultrasound Podcast really coming out with an App?

Well, I probably wouldn’t be typing this if it wasn’t.

So here it is! The app is called “One Minute Ultrasound“.

The premise is: We’ve all been to a course or two now, right? You’ve seen a lecture on how to do these things. But right before you go in a room to do it, wouldn’t it be nice to see it demonstrated one more time. I mean not many of us have an “ultrasound director” with us scanning every shift.

So that’s our goal, to teleport ourselves to the bedside with you via your smartphone. We’ve taken the ultrasound procedures and tried to cram a demo of each one with simultaneous video of hand placement, normal images, and pathology all into one minute each. It’s something you can take a look at right before going into a patient’s room, or I’ve been using it to teach med students or residents. It’s great to show them quickly how to do it right before scanning something for the first time. It can take care of the “see one” part of “see one, do one, teach one” and really speed up education as it’s even got pathology pics, which you usually don’t get with your first “see one”.

Now, it’s not actually in the app store yet…..sorry. But we’re very close. Expect it by April 1.

But until then here are some examples and “how-tos” for Ocular, Wall motion abnormality, gallbladder, and Cardiac Output. Enjoy!

What? Who’s ever heard of such! Mainly anyone who’s been reading the literature lately, that’s who. Some pretty sweet lit has been published lately regarding MSK ultrasound and it’s time to get on board. The scaphoid is a little crazy, though, right. A non-long bone, and in the hand. Crazy, you may say, but…… what if you could avoid the CT, MRI or a long wait in an unnecessary thumb SPICA. Well, maybe you can. Take a listen to our expert guest presenter, look up the literature, start practicing, and decide for yourself.
